Official Rains County Record Contacts

This private reference site is not a government office. It cannot confirm a person's custody status, arrange a release, accept bond, or retrieve an official booking record. Direct those requests to the appropriate public office or locator below.

Choose the Record Custodian

For a Rains County booking, current local-custody question, or formal record request, start with the Rains County Sheriff's Office & Jail. The county did not have a verified public online roster as of August 31, 2026, so the phone and records-request route are more reliable than an unofficial roster search.

  • Booking records or a releasable booking photo: use the sheriff's Open Records Request Form. Identify the person, date range, and document requested. A request does not guarantee release of every item.
  • Current local custody: call the Sheriff's Office & Jail. A periodic arrest PDF, news item, or third-party page cannot confirm that a person is currently held or has been released.
  • Post-booking court case or warrant question: use the County Clerk for county-court and Class A/B misdemeanor records, including its listed warrant-related functions, or the District Clerk for district-court criminal dockets and case-search routing. Those records answer a different question from jail custody.
  • Sentenced state custody: use the Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmate search. TDCJ is for state correctional custody, not every Rains County arrest, release, or local jail hold.
  • Federal prison custody: use the Bureau of Prisons locator. BOP coverage is federal custody and is separate from Rains County Jail records.
  • Immigration detention: use the ICE Online Detainee Locator when immigration custody is the actual question. ICE results are not a county booking record or a state-prison result.

For the broader explanation of these channels, custody labels, dated county reports, and official-source limits, see the Rains County records guide. Charges and booking entries are accusations, not proof of guilt; the appropriate court file is the source for a later disposition.
